Our desire is that each resident is able to live well. To this end, we offer a variety of activities and programs designed to help our residents achieve and maintain wellness.

Additional care or support, in excess of our basic personal services, is available to you, should you need it. Services include

• Assistance with dressing and grooming
• Assistance bathing in resident’s shower or in hydrotherapy tub
• Escort to meals and activities
• Meal time assistance
• Assistance with toileting and incontinence management
• Complex medication administration and testing (insulin testing, etc.)
• Evening tuck-in

These and other services are available to residents, at an additional charge.

To help Railside identify our residents’ service requirements, we conduct a Personal Needs Assessment of each resident before move-in, 30 days after move-in, and quarterly thereafter (at minimum). Assessment factors include mobility, continence, cognition, and daily living activities. Additional assessments may occur after acute episodes such as hospitalization, serious illness, or injury.

Following each assessment, Railside staff will meet with the resident and his or her family or representative to discuss the assessment, develop an individualized service plan, and review any cost or rate changes.

To ensure the happiness and well-being of each of our residents, we provide the following services, all included in our basic monthly fee. Our staff is available at all times to assist residents with any personal needs, planned or unplanned.

Meals & Snacks
Meals are a social experience at Railside. Three meals are served daily in our elegant community dining room, though residents may choose to dine in their rooms, for a modest charge. Friends and family are also welcome to join residents for meals, any time, for a nominal fee.
Our meals are home-cooked and healthy, designed to meet the nutritional needs of our residents. A hot breakfast is served, to order, between 7 and 9 a.m.; cold breakfast items are available to late risers after 9 a.m. Lunch is served at noon, the main meal of the day at Railside. Lighter fare is served at supper, from 5 p.m.–6 p.m.

Delicious and healthy snacks are available all day, every day! We have homemade baked goods, sandwiches, fresh fruit, ice cream, a variety of hot and cold beverages, and more available to our residents, whenever they’d like.

Medication Assistance
Whether you need medication administered by a staff member, a reminder to take your medication, or just help getting your medication container open (child-proof caps are impossible!) Railside staff can assist you, 24 hours a day. Medication assistance is supervised by a registered nurse.

Wellness Checks & Mail Service
Every day we take time to chat with our residents to see how they’re doing, as well as deliver mail and newspapers.

Maintenance
Our friendly and courteous maintenance staff is available to perform annoying yet necessary tasks such as adjusting the thermostat, changing light bulbs, and hanging pictures, as well as more serious maintenance concerns.

Housekeeping
Our housekeepers are thorough and conscientious, treating residents’ spaces and property with delicacy and respect. Our housekeeping activities occur on the following schedule:

Wash personal laundry
Dust and vacuum apartment

Railside Assisted Living Center has a specialized memory care unit, The Terrace, dedicated to addressing the needs of residents with memory impairments. The Terrace’s staff is specially trained to work with individuals experiencing memory impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia, and to understand the challenges these individuals face.

The Terrace is a modified environment that makes fewer demands on residents’ lost or failing skills and abilities; the result is reduced anxiety, stress, and confusion; an improved ability to function in daily life; and enhanced quality of life for the resident.

The Terrace’s support services include:

• Maintaining daily routines
• Encouraging physical activity such as walking, dancing, and seated exercises
• Guiding social interaction with peers, staff, and visitors
• Dressing, grooming, and bathing assistance
• Care planning that is person-centered, rather than focused on the disease or lost skills
• Assisting during meal time
• Assisting with toileting and incontinence
• Supporting family caregivers
